As the final events of the IAAF World Relays were concluded in Nassau Bahamas, Athletics Federation of Nigeria officials have lamented the poor conditions their athletes contended with as they pursued results in the competition.

The Nigerian women 4x200m won the country’s only medal, a gold after they benefited from a slip from the USA team. But according to AFN technical director, Omatseye Nesiama money issues and ill-health prevented the Nigerian teams from making the desired impact.

“Unfortunately, visa issues and ill-health of some of our athletes robbed us again from getting our full strength on ground in the Bahamas. This caused us to put up a no show ‘scratch’ from the men’s 4x100m. For example athletes like Ogho- Oghene Egwero, Oghenetega Odele, Rilwan Fasasi, Tosin Adeloye could not make the trip,” said Navy Commodore Nesiama.

Odele disclosed in Lagos that he was pained by the fact that he couldn’t make the trip despite all his training and sacrifices for the country. “I was told there wasn’t money to pay for my visa fees at US embassy. It was painful that I missed the opportunity to compete,” he said.
