Jonathan presents handover notes, National Conference recommendations to Buhari
President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday presented his handover notes and the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference to the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari. The event, which took place at the Executive Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was preceded by the guided tour of the State House complex. At the ceremony, attended by the joint transition committee, Jonathan said the documents were to assist the incoming administration to navigate and resolve most of the problems hindering the nation’s progress.
Court stops NERC from increasing electricity tariff
A Federal High Court in Lagos on Thursday restrained the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, (NERC), from implementing the new electricity tariff which was to take effect from June 1. The Judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, gave the order, in a ruling on an ex-parte application filed by a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr Toluwani Adebiyi.
Court upholds DStv’s 20 % increment on subscription
A Federal High Court, Lagos, on Thursday said that Digital Satellite Television (DStv) had the right to increase its subscription rate as it did last month. Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke then struck out a suit filed by some aggrieved subscribers challenging the company’s recent 20 per cent increment on subscription. DStv is being operated by Multi-Choice Nigeria Ltd.

The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of seventy two (72) senior police officers including 14 Commissioners of Police and 20 Deputy Commissioners of Police. Jos – Outgoing Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang has commissioned an ultra modern Government House complex built at the cost of N15billion even though the incoming administration of Simon Lalong has said he will not make use the edifice as the cost is outrageous.
Governor Jang who commissioned other projects which his administration initiated including road networks also named a 7.50km Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH road constructed at the cost of N3.7billion after former President, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Spain judge opens terrorism case against Boko Haram
A Spanish High Court judge said Thursday he has agreed to hear a lawsuit against Nigerian Islamist militant group Boko Haram and its leader Abubakar Shekau for crimes against humanity and terrorism. Judge Fernando Andreu ruled he was competent to handle the case under the principle of universal jurisdiction — which allows courts to try certain atrocities committed in other countries — because the case concerns a Spanish nun who is a victim of the group.
