The inaugural leg of this year’s Star Music Trek, which took place at the Municipal Garden on Saturday May 2, 2015, continues today at Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. The Calabar leg which featured epic performances by some of the biggest names in Nigerian music such as Wande Coal, KCee, Burna Boy, Chidinma, Black Magic, Oritse Femi, Cynthia Morgan and many others has left many talking points too exciting and memorable to forget in a hurry.
Black Magic was the first to mount the stage and the crowd didn’t stop cheering as he performed hit songs like ‘Rainbow’, ‘Repete’, ‘Africa’ and ‘Pass you’ by featuring Oritsefemi.
His performance of ‘Pass You By’ brought Oritsefemi up on stage and the fans went gaga when he appeared. After performing ‘Pass You By’, Oritse Femi then took over the stage completely.
The ‘Double Wahala’ hit maker went back to his first hit ‘Mercies of the lord’, and became very emotional recounting on how much God has blessed him over the years. Quickly, he bounced up with ‘Redi’, ‘Sexy Lady’, and ‘Double Wahala’ to crown it all up leaving the crowd lit with excitement.
Oritsefemi goes spiritual on stage
Oritsefemi has a lot to be grateful for and boy does he know it! The ‘Double Wahala’ crooner was visibly emotional and could not contain himself while performing his hit song “Mercies Of The Lord” as he sat down onstage with his head bowed and actually began recounting his personal blessings in front of the appreciative audience.
During a brief interview after his performance, Oritse Femi said;”I’ve been looking for a way to be part of the Star Music Trek. My fans have been complaining, messaging me on social media to confirm if I’m on the trek this year. God time is the best, I just shut down the stage of the very popular Star Music Trek”
Chidinma denies Flavour
Fresh from being tricked into accepting an onstage marriage proposal at Friday’s pre-Trek gig at the Calabar leg of the 2015 Star Music Trek, pop star Chidinma has hit the headlines again after denying ‘Ololufe’ co-star Flavour N’abania while performing at the main event tagged ‘Calabar Rocks!’ In the course of her performance, which coincided with her birthday, the natural haired beauty informed the crowd that she is looking for ‘Bae’.
The excited crowd replied “Flavour!” to which she replied, “But Flavour is not here now.” The crowd then sang a joyful chorus of “Happy Birthday” to her as the night of fun and music continued. The petite singer Chidinma, came on a little after midnight and performed hit songs Oh Baby, Kedike, Shoki Remix, Emi Ni Baller amongst others.
Limpopo master Kcee doles out N50k to a fan
The big surprise for the night was an appearance by ‘Limpopo’ hit maker, Kcee who surprisingly appeared on stage to the delight of the capacity crowd. Kcee performed hit songs such as Limpopo, Turn by Turn & Pull over. He further surprised a fan on stage with a whooping sum of N50, 000 after emerging winner of a mini dance competition organized by him on stage.
I see love all around, muses Cynthia Morgan
Following Kcee’s Performance was undisputed queen of Nigerian ragga/dancehall Cynthia Morgan. The energetic singer with her trademark red hair stormed the stage with her excitement visible, this being her debut on the Trek. She performed hit songs such as Shoki Rmx, Run Their Mouth, Don’t Break my heart, Lead Me On, German Juice and I’m Taken.
Speaking after her performance, Cynthia Morgan said; “Right from the airport it has been all love, and what happened out there was love. I felt the crowd all through my performance”.
Wande thrills with singles from new album
To put an end to all performances and bid Calabar a farewell was an exhilarating performance by Wande Coal who went far back to perform songs from his debut album ‘M2M’ including ‘You Bad’, ‘Bumper to Bumper’, ‘Taboo’, ‘Pere’ in addition to his newer songs including ‘The Kick’, ‘Baby Hello’ & ‘Wake Up’.
Speaking after his performance on Star’s annual sponsorship of the Annual Music Trek, Wande Coal remarked: “ I’m glad with what Star is doing, helping us to reach out to fans out there and also inspiring those upcoming acts in different city that look up to us in different state. It’s a good movement”
