Communities in Anambra East and West comprising Aguleri, Umuleri, Anam, among others, were in joyous mood, weekend, following the consecration of Ven. Capt. Johnson Nwaohalama Ekwe as the new Bishop of Niger West. Ven. Ekwe is said to be respected because of his track record of working in a place where others dreaded probably because of his profession as a former soldier before his elevation as bishop.
Bishop Ekwe replaces the out- going Anthony Nkwoka, who retired from ther position based on age. Speaking to South East Voice Bishop EKwe said the area had a difficult terrain because of its geographical location. “I do not believe that any place has a difficult terrain because of challenges. I have had many difficult challenges because of my military carrier which lasted up to 28 years. I have gone round the country and by Gods grace I do not think Niger West Diocese is exceptional.
“If God is there then there must be a way out, the moment Jesus is in operation, every struggle will seize. I believe I have not sent myself here. He sent me here and if He has sent me He will use me to do whatever pleases Him here.
“I know God has already made way there, a man of God called Kenneth Copland made a statement and I quote: there are no dry places but we have dry people. So, since the Lord has anointed me to be in this place He will make a way, where we think there is no way. I believe it is the best place to be now. All we need in our new task is cooperation of the people and that cooperation is what we are asking for the new government that will come into the country. Leadership is from God, my duty as a Bishop is to pray for the people and the government” he said.
