These days DJ’s are collaborating with musicians to get their voices heard. DJ Jimmy Jatt started out with this innovative idea, with the release of his album Industreet featuring the likes of Waje, Phyno and Ruggedman. Following in her mentor’s path, Nanayat Abedoh a.k.a DJ Nana has collaborated on a new tune with Omawunmi titled Know.
In a chat with Showtime, the charming DJ explains the reason for the song.”I made my music because I felt it was time for that. I didn’t plan it. I don’t know how to make you understand, but it came to me. I was in Jimmy Jatt’s studio and the producer Benie Macaulay asked me to listen to some beats he made.
I heard one and said I’ll like to work with this. He gave me the go-ahead.I have always wanted to work with Omawunmi.I have always loved and admired her. I told her manager and he asked me to meet her where she rehearses. I did, played the beat to her and she liked it, viola we were ready to work. The next time we met was in the studio”
She also threw more light on the reason she worked with Omawunmi on the song .”Omawunmi is a strong woman. Her voice and her style shows it. I watched her on Idols,I wanted her to win. I was her fan. I never believed I’ll meet her, talk less of working with her and because she hardly features on people’s song.
When I went to her, she wanted to push me to another female act. I refused I insisted I wanted her on my first single and she said ‘Okay make I hear the beat’. Then she said ‘We go work’.I was so happy, she gave me her personal number and that was it”
