ASABA—A pan-Deltan group, Detribalised Deltans for Genuine Change, has condemned what it described as the rape of democracy during the recently- conducted elections in Delta State.
While addressing newsmen in Asaba, yesterday, the spokesman of the group, Hon. Emma Nwosu, claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which according to him had woefully failed the state in the last sixteen years, could simply not have won the elections in Delta considering its series of broken promises to the electorate.
According to him: “Anyone going for thanksgiving over a fraudulently acquired mandate is trying to make a mockery of God while actually only fooling his or herself. There were no elections in Delta. What happened was someone, somewhere imperiously dictating that the All Progressive Congress, APC must not have more than fifty thousand votes in the presidential elections and not more than one hundred thousand votes in the governorship elections.
”It is what they know best. They just rob us blind, loot the treasury of the state and wait every four years to pump billions into the electoral process, bribing election officials, writing results and rigging popular parties out of mandates given by the people to their candidates.
Nwosu nevertheless congratulated President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, asserting that his victory has brought hope for the liberation of the country from what he described as impunity and unbridled corruption. While urging Chief O’tega Emerhor, the All Progressive Congress, APC’s candidate for the Governorship election in Delta State to ensure he reclaims his stolen mandate, he commended Emerhor for his consistency in maintaining that Buhari is the best bet for progress in Nigeria.
