A N10 million skill acquisition and rehabilitation centre being constructed at Amagunze in Nkanu Local Government Area of Enugu State, by Hope Onyemaechi for the rehabilitation and training of destitute and other less-privileged ones in the society is now nearing completion.
Coordinator of the Helpless Foundation, which is constructing the project, Okenwa Kennedy Onyema who spoke in Onitsha, Anambra State, said the foundation, non-governmental, voluntary and charitable,
would touch lives and change the world for better for the needy, adding that apart from serving as a rehabilitation and skills acquisition, the centre would also help in the advancement of God’s interest and service for humanity.
He noted that although the project was expected to be completed before the end of this year, the foundation members were already visiting hospitals, paying medical bills for the down-trodden and doing other charity works. He pointed out that so far, they had visited the sick at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, Nnewi and other public and private hospitals where they paid bills for the sick.
“The last Sunday of every month is our hospital visitation day. We visit hospitals and motherless babies’ homes in the society. “We help the sick, who cannot afford their bills for the treatments. We also raise funds for charity and donate gifts, clothes, food items and cash, among others, to the children in the motherless babies’ homes.
“We also support them with good counselling and advice. This programme has helped a lot of people,” Okenwa said. He, therefore, hoped that public spirited individuals and groups would partner with the foundation and support its programmes through donations, among others.
