In the first game of the new NPFL season, Taraba FC survived a late scare to triumph 3-2 over visiting Enugu Rangers on Sunday afternoon.

Bobby Abel gave Taraba an early lead but Enugu Rangers’ Senegalese import Peter Coly leveled things up for his side to send the teams into the halftime break level at 1-1.

Taraba, buoyed on by their home fans, thronged forward in search of the lead and a minute after resumption a penalty was awarded in their favour.

Okey Odita guilty of committing the foul that lead to the penalty protested his innocence to no avail and Abdulmalik Mohammed blasted his spot-kick into the net to give Taraba a 2-1 lead.

Five minutes after the hour mark Taraba took the game away from Enugu Rangers with their third goal of the game courtesy Nura Ahmed who came in as a substitute.

Rangers responded to going two goals behind by bringing in Samuel Agba and the power playing forward took just 16 minute to make his mark in the game scoring his side second goal to bring scores to 3-2.

Agba almost snatched a point for his side but a superb save at the death from Taraba goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Obilor, helped the home side pick up all three points in their first game of the season.
