Osun expels 5 students for violent conduct

Osogbo—Osun State government has expelled five public secondary schools’ students fingered as perpetrators of the violent crises that ravaged two secondary schools in Osogbo for several days.

Students of Osogbo High School and Government Technical College, both located a few meters away from each other, along Osogbo/Iwo road, in Osogbo, had in February, engaged one another in deadly clashes, forcing government to close the schools indefinitely.

The government, according to a release signed by the Permanent Secretary, Osun state Ministry of Education, Mr. Lawrence Oyeniran, and made available to newsmen in Osogbo, yesterday, said it arrived at the decision after a careful consideration of the cases involving the two schools.

It claimed it has also considered the final year students of both schools, who are scheduled to sit for 2015 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination ,WASSCE, and year 2015 NABTEB respectively.

It added that it took cognisance of the need to enforce discipline among the students and sustain peace in the schools before arriving at the decision to expel the students.

The statement further stated that parents of the returning students and students are to sign undertakings as stipulated by the government and should mandatorily attend a meeting with the management of both Schools at 11 a.m on Monday March 9, 2015.

Also, parents of each returning students in both schools would pay “a reparation fee” to be fixed by the Parents Teacher Association, P.T.A, payable into Access Bank Plc Account Number 0000502126, without which their children/wards would not be allowed access into the schools.

Disclosing that the school would re-open for full academic work on Monday march 9, 2015, the release maintained that, security agencies would be deployed to assist the management of both schools in maintaining discipline and peace.
