IKA Fed Constituency: Our deal with Doris — Obia

IKA Fed Constituency: Our deal with Doris — Obia

Obia

Kainji Aluge Obia is the Deputy Director-General, Doris Uboh Campaign Organization, the campaign platform of Doris Uboh for House of Representatives, Ika Federal Constituency, Delta State. Obia is also the Ika South Co-ordinator of Team Ochei, the political platform for the senatorial aspiration of Hon. Victor Ochei for the Delta North Senate seat.

Obia in this interview gives reasons why Obuh is the candidate to beat in the election, why he is championing the aspiration of non- PDP candidates for the National Assembly and also canvassing for Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to be governor. Excerpts:

Egufe Yafugborhi

WHAT are the chances of your candidate?

We have done our job well. Our campaign is grassroots oriented. You are aware I am a card carrying member of the PDP, despite the fact that I am working for Hon. Doris Uboh and Rt. Hon Victor Ochei, Accord Party House of Representatives and Senatorial candidates respectively. We are working on the precedents set by our PDP leaders in Ika South who worked for the opposition in 2011.

As we campaign for Uboh and Ochei, we are very much aware that the PDP governorship candidate for Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa is a very good and sellable material. He is an asset to us as we go on with our electioneering campaigns, we are also using the medium to campaign for Okowa. We have been told by some PDP exponents that Accord Party is part of PDP.

Will the aspiration of Senator Okowa not hurt Uboh’s chances?

Obia

No, Hon Doris Uboh is on the right track and we are praying to the Almighty God to give her victory come March 28.

Uboh during the time she represented Ika federal constituency in the National Assembly executed over fifty-two projects. She sponsored over three bills including the popular National Minimum Wage Bill, unlike her successor, Doris Uboh was fully involved in the day to day business of the House. she was a fighter, outspoken, intelligent, purposeful and a result-oriented lawmaker. She made sure the dividends of democracy got to her people. In 2011, when Uboh was the PDP House of Representatives candidate for the federal constituency those saying today that she is in the opposition worked for the Accord Party House of Representatives candidate. However, we should put sentiments aside and cast our votes for Doris Uboh.

So is history repeating itself?

Doris Uboh is going to win because for the sake of equity. It is the turn of Ika South to produce the next House of Representatives member in our constituency. Our dear brother Senator Ifeanyi Okowa today, by the grace of the Almighty God is the governorship candidate of the PDP for Delta State. If equity is preached uphold and at the state and national levels, it will also be good we preach and uphold it in our federal constituency. That is the way I see it.

It is proper that Ika South has a representation in the House of Representatives, otherwise it will mean 8 years of nonrepresentational from Ika South. It is good and pertinent to note that in this current dispensation, both senator and Reps. Seats are occupied by Ika North East leaving Ika South with nothing at the federal level, then in the next dispensation. Governor and House of Representative will still be in Ika North East if Uboh is left out.

Don’t forget that you get more prominence when you are part of a decision making than if you are absent.
