Lagos—The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC has urged the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the Advertising Practitioners’ Council of Nigeria (APCON) sanctions television stations and newspapers that are broadcasting and publishing damaging documentary and hate advertorials on key opposition leaders.

The APC accused the organisations of partisanship by stepping out of the broadcast and media ethics to protect the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which it alleged was desperate to perpetrate itself in office at all cost.

APC spokesman Joe Igbokwe, who made the call, identified a particular television station, with headquarters in Lagos, of engaging in false and desperate propaganda sponsored by agents of the ruling party.

In a statement, Igbokwe said the station has thrown decency and decorum to the dogs in its desperate effort to partake in PDP’s grand looting of hundreds of trillions of Nigeria’s oil wealth.

“What the station (name withheld) is doing for the collapsing PDP is akin to what similar organisations did for the military in the days Nigerians struggled against dictatorship and that the station will go down with the PDP government,” Igbokwe predicted.

In the statement, Igbokwe said the documentaries against the APC leaders were sponsored by spurious, unnamed individuals, all aimed at tarnishing their image.

It reads: “The station is doing this nefarious activity irrespective of the dangerous consequences these hate propaganda bode for the Nigerian state even after the election.”
