Delta REC hails turnout in card reader test run

By Tommy Anaduaka

Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in Delta State, Elder Aniedi Ikoiwak, has described the large turnout of the electorate in last Saturday’s demonstration of the use of the card reader for the forthcoming general elections as an indication of the readiness of the people and acceptability of the card readers for polls.

The state REC spoke with members of the Media Frontiers for Good Governance, MFGG, a group which ensures good governance at all levels, led by Mr Emma Fejokwu.

Elder Ikoiwak said that with the adhoc staff of the commission and other staff including some management officers trained on the technicalities of the operation of the card reader machine, any eligible voter can easily be accredited within a space of five seconds before exercising his or her franchise during the election.

He remarked that with the smart card reader demonstration, Deltans have now overcome the initial fear of the use of the card readers.
