AMVCA 2015: Best moments of the night!

 

Amaka Igwe remembered: Silence enveloped the expansive Expo hall of Eko and Suites’, Lagos when Amaka Igwe, who died last year was honoured with ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award . The award was presented by none other than Nollywood veteran actor-turned-politician, Richard Mofe-Damijo, who saluted the late film maker for her outstanding contribution to the industry, while also expressing his gratitude to her for giving him the opportunity to star in her hit TV series, ‘Checkmate’.

Receiving the award on behalf of his wife and business partner, Mr. Charles Igwe said, “all my wife ever wanted was to give her very best in everything.” Also remembered during the show, were Muna Obiekwe, Chris Nkulor, Greg Inawodu, Margret Umanah, Clems Onyeka, Rabib Musa, Amaka, Uchenna Amuta, Lizzy Ogbudo among other actors who have been snatched by the cold hands of death.

Night of music: The show saw guests wowed by performances from Osas Ighodaro, the Mavins Crew, Tuface Idibia and Lola Rae, Diamond Platinumz, and P-Square who closed the event with an electrifying performance that made the night unforgettable. The star-studded ceremony also included Africa’s finest, clad in stylish gowns and suits to rival any fashion ramp. Some of Africa’s film and television stars who hit the red carpet amidst the flashing lights and interview ready camera crews included Genevieve Nnaji, Uti Nwachukwu, Linda Ejiofor amongst others.

Speaking at the event, M-Net West Africa Regional Director, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu paid tribute to both the winners and the nominees. She said, “Each year we have hosted this event, it has become more evident that Africa has truly carved its own mark and identity in the global film and TV industry.

Tonight’s event recognized all the talented individuals who continue to grow this industry. We’re very honoured that we could reward them for their exceptional work. A special thank you to our partners MultiChoice Africa and Amstel for their continued support in making sure that African talent is well and truly recognised in style.”

Explaining why Nigerian film makers dominated this year’s awards, Mrs Uzoukwu said, “Nigerian film makers had quality entries this year than most film makers from other African countries.”
