Minna—The official handing over of the state administration by Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu to Speaker of the state House of Assembly instead of his Deputy has continued to generate tension in the state just as the state government says there was nothing wrong in what the governor did.

Governor Aliyu officially handed over the administration of the state to Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Adamu Usman instead of his deputy, Alhaji Ahmed Musa Ibeto last week while on vacation.

Former Chief whip in the House of Reoresentatives, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa Bwari had in a statement, described the action of the governor as not only gross violation of the Constitution but has also committed an impeachable offence.

According to him, the governor’s action contravenes section 190 of the 1999 Constitution, stating that in the event that a governor is not available to perform his functions, the power to act automatically shifts over to his deputy.

“The fact is that any blatant disobedience of the Constitution by a public office holder can be grounds for impeachment. The constitution is not anybody’s play thing and we cannot choose when to obey it and when not to do so.”

He said that as far as there is still a serving Deputy Governor in the state, his office should be respected and accorded the constitutional powers.
