The Police in Lagos have arrested seven suspected members of a robbery gang, which specializes in snatching vehicles from unsuspecting motorists at gunpoints in Lagos and Ogun states and selling same at give away prices outside Nigeria.
Recovered from the suspects, among who were three graduates, were four stolen vehicles that were on the verge of being driven outside the country, two locally-made double-barrelled guns and four live cartridges.
Among the recovered vehicles was a 2013 Model Honda CRV snatched from a staff of Channels Television at gunpoint, around Opic area, Lagos/Ibadan expressway, Ogun State, two weeks ago.
The command’s boss, Kayode Aderanti, said when information on the journalist’s stolen vehicle reached the command, a massive manhunt was launched by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.
He said it led to the arrest of Manven Bali, Chiekube Emeka and Ejike Chukwuemeka at Ojodu and Ikorodu areas of Lagos.
He said: “The suspects confessed to have robbed the said CRV belonging to Channels Television, one Honda Crosstour belonging to one Adeola Adediran and many other cars within Lagos and Ogun states.
“Aside the recovered CRV SUV with number plate LSD 322 CK, three other cars (one Peugeot car with number plate AU 380 KWL; one Toyota Camry, GRZ 42 AA and one Honda Accord salon car, KSF 95 DB) including two double-barrelled guns and four live cartridges were also recovered from them.
“The suspects further confessed that one Nura Mohammed, a notorious receiver of stolen properties, who has been on Police wanted list for five years, bought all the stolen cars from them.”
