PDP will soon suspend or expel Elechi says Party scribe

By Peter Okutu
ABAKALIKI-THE leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ebonyi state, weekend declared that the party at the national level would soon take action against Governor Martin Elechi over his alleged anti-party activities in the state.

In a statement by the Party’s Publicity Secretary, Apostle Benjamin Obaji, the party disclosed that the decision to either suspend or expel the Governor from the PDP rested solely with the National Secretariat of the party as reports concerning his undue romance with Labour Party had been submitted to the National Secretariat of the party for necessary action.

He accused the Governor of sponsoring LP’s programmes and candidates in next month’s general elections stressing that it was improper for a sitting PDP Governor to use the resources of the state to fund an opposition party against the platform that brought him to prominence in 2007.

According to him, no amount conspiracy and evil machinations against the PDP would deter the party from emerging victorious at the polls even as emphasized that the PDP governorship candidate, Engr. Dave Umahi would be sworn-in come May 29th as next the Governor of the state.

The statement read in part: “The national secretariat of the PDP will soon take action on the Governor, whether he will be suspended or expelled from the party or not; our report has been submitted and it is clear of how he has been romancing with Labour party in the state.

“When the party flagged off its campaign, he was not in attendance throughout the exercise; there is allegation of how he has allowed all the activities of Labour Party to be broadcast on the state radio without allowing that of PDP.

“This man is not grateful to a party that brought him into prominence in 2007; he was never a PDP member yet he enjoyed the platform of the party as a two term Governor. This man is ungrateful”.
