NO fewer than 5,000 students from the faculties of Management Sciences, Environmental Studies and Engineering of Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke have received various certificates during the combined convocation ceremony for graduates of 2008/2009 academic session to 2012/2013 sessions.
The Rector of the institution, Dr. Augustus Oke, who disclosed this said the categories of awards for graduands include: Advanced Certificates, National and Higher National Diplomas for both full-time and part-time students of the institution.
Briefing newsmen ahead of the 4th combined convocation of the institution, the Rector also blamed stakeholders in the education sector for the falling standard of education in Nigeria.
According to him, lack of commitment on the part of stakeholders was one of the major factors responsible for the appalling state of education in the country.
He noted that the combined lukewarm attitude to education by government, teachers, students and even parents accounted for the dwindling fortune of education in the country.
Parts of the activities lined-up for the event include, convocation lecture entitled Unlocking the potentials of Polytechnic and Colleges of Technology for National Development, Issues, Challenges and Prospect, delivered by Professor Matthew Idowu Ajibero, former Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic and current Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Higher Education.
At the convocation ceremony, Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, the first Executive governor of Osun State and Engr. Samuel Olatunde Fadahunsi, the first Chairman of Governing Council of the institution received fellowship award of the institution.
