Lagos – The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) on Thursday announced the death of its former Vice-President (North), Malam Saleh Mahdi.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Guild’s Secretary-General, Mr Isaac Ighure, in Lagos.

“Saleh, a staff of the Borno State Radio and Television, Maiduguri, died on Wednesday after a brief illness,” the statement said.

It stated that the deceased is survived by a wife and eight children.

The statement said his remains had been interred at his Maiduguri residence, in accordance with Islamic rites.

Saleh was Vice President (North) of the NGE between 2004 and 2005 and was later elected as a member of the Standing Committee in Bauchi, in December, 2005.

“He was re-elected to the position in 2006 for another two years.

The statement quoted the NGE’s President, Mr Femi Adesina’ as describing Saleh’s death, as “a very sad development.

“I remember Saleh as someone who would attend any programme of the NGE in whatever part of the country, despite being based in Maiduguri.

“He was as constant as the Northern Star; and that is why when he could not come to Katsina for our annual conference last August, it was very strange, and a number of us placed phone calls to him.

“How we will miss him! May God accept his soul,” the statement quoted Adesina as saying. (NAN)
