Lagos—As Lagos doctors in the employ of the state government begin a three-day warning strike today, Governor Babatunde Fashola has appealed to doctors and nurses in the state to reach a consensus to end strikes in the health sector.

Fashola, who made the appeal during the 2015 State Council on Health meeting in Lagos, said such consensus would enable the health professionals fulfil their core responsibility of saving human lives.

The governor presented the performance scorecard for Lagos State Ministry of Health, noting that the incessant strikes in the health sector will continue to be an impediment to provision of excellent health care delivery in the state.

Fashola, who was honoured with three awards; “High Achievers Award for Healthcare; Governor of the Republic Award and Healthcare Man of the Year Award by Healthcare Communications Limited, expressed his gratitude to Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, Chief Executive Officer of Healthcare Magazine, for the awards, attributing his endeavours in health care delivery to team work by Lagos State Health Family.

His words: “I thank all our health workers for refusing to give up, you have been very resourceful. This award belongs to all of us. People all over the nation choose our healthcare not for the quality of our services alone but also for our free health care services. Indeed, our policies and laws have set us apart.”
