Senator Andy Uba

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Senator Andy Uba has asked Nigerians to be calm over the shift in election dates in the country, saying that it was an opportunity offered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to organize a credible elections which Nigerians would be proud of.
Uba representing Anambra South in the Senate, decried the politicization of the shift, urging Nigerians to disregard inflammatory statements by politicians who were merely motivated by divisive inclinations which were essentially not patriotic.
In a statement by his Senior Media Aide, Uchem Obi, Uba said that the ‘’opposition’s claim that the shift is a script written by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is irresponsible and reckless and concocted to mislead Nigerians and incite them against our party.’’
He, however, ‘’warned the opposition to desist from conjectures and permutations and focus in participating in a properly organized election which would satisfy both winners and losers as free, fair and credible.’’
Uba wondered how there could be credible elections when tens of millions of Nigerians were yet to collect their Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, and INEC was yet to achieve infrastructural readiness.
According to him, ‘’it is a lot better for INEC to shift the date of the elections and organize a credible poll than to insist on the earlier dates and end up with an election which no one would accept.”
