Ambode group embarks on road shows in LGs

By  Olasunkanmi Akoni

LAGOS—A group, Support Group for All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Lagos, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, yesterday commenced a road show in 20 local government areas of the state to sensitize the grassroots on the candidate’s manifesto to the voters.

The road show is also to be taken to local Councils Development Areas, LCDAs, in the state.

Chairman of the group, Mr. Demola Seriki, who disclosed this at the flag-off of the road show at the group’s secretariat in Ikeja, said it was part of efforts to complement the task of the candidate’s campaign team in engaging voters on issues-based campaign through direct interaction with the people.

Seriki, who was represented by Fola Tinubu, explained that the creation of the group was a result of efforts to put those who shared the passion for the continuity of development strides recorded in Lagos State since 1999 behind Ambode.

He disclosed that the group had grassroots presence in the local governments of Lagos State, with 15 member Mobilisation Committees, comprising community leaders and grassroots politicians.

“These committees have pooled professionals from various fields volunteering to contribute to the emergence of Mr. Ambode as the next governor of Lagos State,” he said.

Tinubu, while commending Lagos APC and its leadership, led by Chief Henry Ajomale and Cardinal James Odunbanku for the campaign machinery they had deployed in selling Ambode, said:   “We believe more hands must be on deck to repel the forces of retrogression symbolized by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which seeks to hoodwink Lagosians and lure them out of their comfort zone to a future whose possibilities is today represented by the rudderless leadership provided at the federal level.”

He assured residents that Ambode would consolidate on the achievements of the incumbent governor, Babatunde Fashola, in all sphere of the economy.

He said: “But with the schizophrenic disinformation and misinformation of the PDP, with the hypocritical and false propaganda of the PDP, it is possible for voters to take these achievements for granted and be shortchanged.

“This consolidator roadshow takes the facts and figures, the promise of the Ambode leadership, the legacy of APC in Lagos State to the streets.

“We believe that with this engagement, we shall wipe the lies of the PDP with the brooms of truth and restore honesty where the PDP has sowed dishonesty.”

According to Tinubu, the group will be going on the road show on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays before the governorship election day.
