ABEOKUTA—The Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, in Ogun State yesterday accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, supporters of allegedly destroying the billboard of its governorship candidate, Prince Rotimi Paseda in the Sagamu area of the state.

The UPN also allegedly accused the ruling APC of replacing the destroyed billboard of its governorship candidate, located in front of the Total Filling Station in Sagamu with that of Governor Amosun and his running mate, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga.

It was gathered that Paseda’s campaign billboard was torn down and replaced with that of Amosun and his running mate between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Addressing newsmen in Sagamu at the site of the billboard, state UPN Director of Communications and Strategy, Chief Bola Omololu alleged that the destruction of the billboard of the party’s governorship candidate was part of the strategies being adopted by the governor and the ruling APC to intimidate and oppress the opposition parties.

Omololu wondered why the billboard should be torn down and replaced with that of the governor when the necessary fee paid to the state agency in charge of signage had yet to lapse.

When contacted, state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Sola Lawal referred our correspondent to the state’s Signages and Advertising Agency.

But the General Manager of OGSAA, Mr. Akinlabi Bandele argued that fees paid by the agency in charge of the site where the UPN candidate’s billboard was removed was due since January 18.

According to Bandele: “The agency that registered that site with us paid for only four weeks and it expired on January 18. We don’t really have any issue with them, UPN. It is only the outdoor advertising agency that we deal with. They should talk to their agency to find out if they have paid.”
