Police foil bank robbery in Lagos

Policemen attached to Area ‘B’ Command, Apapa, have foiled a bank robbery , arresting four suspected members of the gang.

Information at Crime Alert’s disposal revealed that the five man robbery gang had planned to storm the Creek road branch of one of the new generation banks, at about 1pam, Monday.

In other to gain easy access into the bank’s premises, one o f the gang members reportedly approached a private guard attached to the bank, with a promise to share the loot with him.

But unknown to the suspect, the private guard was an undercover policeman.

On the D-day, the five man robbery gang reportedly stormed the bank and positioned themselves strategically to wade off intruders. Things however fell apart for them as two members of the gang who went inside the premises were reportedly apprehended by policemen who had laid ambush for them.

A shoot-out reportedly ensued after one of the armed men stationed by the gate noticed the struggle between his colleagues and the intruders inside the banking hall.

However at the end of the shoo-out, four suspected members of the gang were arrested while the fifth member managed to escape in their operational vehicle.

The suspects as gathered, had been transferred to the State Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS for further investigation , with a view to apprehending their fleeing colleague.
