PORT HARCOURT— Governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, has called on Ikwerre traditional rulers to join in the effort to promote political justice and equity in the state.

Peterside, when he paid a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Isiokpo Ancient Kingdom, Eze Blessing Wagor, in Isiokpo, headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state, said that traditional rulers have a role to play in the drive to ensure sustained development in the state.

He said that if elected, he will ensure greater development of the state.

“Now we are about to make another decision as to who will be the governor of Rivers State. Ikwerre, as an ethnic nationality, has a very critical role to play at this point in time. As custodians of Ikwerre culture, and Ikwerre values, at a time of national moral crisis, we expect the custodians of our culture and value system, the traditional rulers and fathers, to lend their voice of critique, so that the people can take the right path.

“Your majesties, I know that it is not going to be an easy decision, at a time when our children are exposed to rice; you will give them that rice and they will go to toilet the next day.

“The Ikwerre man is known to work hard and keep his dignity. He is never known to be a beggar. It is not our culture, it is not our tradition. So, today, at occasions, they dish out N1,000, N2,000, but you know that N1,000 can never go round any Ikwerre son. It will only go round a few cronies.”
