Edojah
HON. Solomon Edojah was a former Commissioner in Delta State and member of the House of Representatives. A stalwart of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, he was in Kwara state for 6 months to help salvage the state chapter of the party after the mass exodus of most politicians in the state from the party to the opposition All Progress Congress, APC. He aspired for the Delta Central senate seat in the recent PDP primaries but failed to secure the ticket. In this interview, he speaks on his experience and the chances of PDP in the forthcoming general elections.
By Levinus Nwabughiogu
HOW would you describe your experience at the primaries?
I entered the race believing that I have the muzzle, the popularity and what it takes to complete the race. But like the usual PDP, it went the PDP way but all that is history. We have put that behind us and what is left now is how to pick our pieces and forge ahead. That is where I am.
When you say it went PDP way, what exactly do you mean?
By now, I thought there were several lessons we should have learnt. But we are still learning. PDP has a peculiar and very unique way of resolving internal crisis. I think it is ingenious, ingenious in the sense that is it not something any other person can quote. It is something that is only peculiar to the machinery of the PDP.
It was really a storm but like I said whenever we have such a storm, being an old hand in the PDP family, I always know that you don’t need to worry yourself, that one way or the other, the PDP will resolve itself. So, there is an inbuilt mechanism to resolve the PDP storm whenever they occur. So, what you find in is not peculiar to Delta State. It is all over the country. You can see that the Lagos State governorship aspirant, Obanikoro went as far as going to court.
But before you knew, PDP’s internal mechanism came up and he was overwhelmed. Today, they are all singing the same song with Jimi Agbaje. That is exactly what is happening in my state in Delta. All the aspirants who lost, I can’t remember any case in court. That is a plus for the PDP.
I can’t also remember anyone of them who is not a party man, who never had the democratic temper of the PDP leave the party. Yes, a few of them left but those who started the party, who built the structure would not want to leave and become a tenant.
I chose to remain where I am because, it doesn’t make me a man of integrity if I have to abandon my house and become a tenant elsewhere except the house is on fire. But as we speak, the PDP is not on fire.
If it were on fire, yes, you can leave because you can’t die while trying to secure your house. But it is not on fire.
The umbrella may have one or two leakages but it is not torn into pieces yet that will make me to abandon.
But you are alleging irregularities by your own party having said you had all it took to secure your ticket but later lost.
The PDP is such a revolving decimal. Today, you may be on the other side of it and you see darkness. It is like when the earth is rotating and tomorrow the light can come.
The governor at one time had everything and we were working for him and all of a sudden, the thing worked the other way. And knowing full well he had benefited from the party, he had to remain and work for the party. The same thing with me.
