A 55-year-old civil servant, Mr. Olusegun Ofina, yesterday in Lagos, pleaded with an Igando Customary Court to dissolve his 22-year-old marriage to Omotayo over threat to his life.

Ofina told the court that his wife used to attack him with knife, cutlass and other dangerous weapons whenever there was any fight or misunderstanding.

He said: “My wife is a violent woman. She fights me with dangerous wea-pons anytime we quarrel.

“She once poured boiling water on me, which landed me in hospital.”

The petitioner described his wife as troublesome, who always engages in dangerous and physical fight with his mother, tenants and siblings.

My wife always engaged members of my family in fight and even went to my family house to fight them.

Omotayo, 41, also a civil servant and mother of four, accepted some of the allegations and denied others.

She said her husband was not bold enough to take decision without seeking his family’s consent.

She, however, begged the court not to grant her husband’s request, saying that she still loves him.

The court President, Mr. R. Adeyeri, adjourned the case till January 26 for judgment.
