Lagos Police investigate car explosion

By Lucky Nwanekwu

The Lagos State Police Command, yesterday, said investigation into the car explosion in the densely populated area of Lagos was still ongoing.

It could, however, not state whether the explosion was caused by a combustive substance allegedly planted in a politician’s car.

According to Police sources, the car was said to have been parked on a street when residents heard a loud sound and thick smoke billowing from the car in the morning.

The owner of the car, Alhaji Simba, a politician, was said to have called the policemen attached to Ajegunle Divisional police station.

Although nobody was injured, Vanguard learned that Lagos State Command Anti-Bomb Unit, led by ASP Imo Sunday, moved to the scene and after examining the car, took away some particles suspected to be part of the device.

He said the experts explained that “for now we are not going to say whether it is a bomb that exploded or not.

“We are going to test the objects we took from the scene in our laboratory to determine whether it was a bomb or not.

“Forensic analysis will reveal whether it was a bomb that exploded or a mere fire accident.”
