The Executive of Okogho community in Delta State, has petitioned the management of Conoil, operator of Obodo Field OPL 2007, over alleged denial and refusal to grant them employment slots and contract benefits in the oil firm’s on-going project on their land after granting them recognition as host community.
In the petition addressed to the Executive Chairmen of Warri North and South, Mr. Mofe Edema and Francis Maku, respectively, the community listed their grievance against the company to include surveillance of pipelines in the waterways, security of the rig and house boats, employment of different skilled and unskilled labour and catering slots.
They said the petition had become imperative as their patience was running out with the company and called for urgent intervention before things get out of hand.
“This petition is to draw your attention to these injustices being meted out to Okogho community. This is a breach of agreement between parties and if not urgently addressed, we will take our destiny in our hands,” the community said.
