BENIN—A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from accepting the name of Charity Amayaevbo as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for Ovia federal constituency in the 2015 general elections, pending the determination of the motion on notice before it.
The order was sequel to an application by the member representing Ovia federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Nosakhare Osahon, who was one of the candidates that contested the primaries under the platform of APC.
Trial judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed also restrained Charity Amayaevbo, and APC from presenting Amayaevbo as the candidate representing Ovia federal constituency pending the determination of the motion on notice.
The court also asked INEC to show cause why the interim orders sought by Mr. Nosakhare Osahon should not be made against it, even as the court ordered Charity Amayaevbo to stop parading himself as APC flag bear candidate for Ovia federal constituency pending the determination of the motion. The court ordered that INEC , APC and Amayaevbo to appear before it on January 6, 2015 to show cause why the interim orders being sought by Osahon should not be made by the court.
