CHI said that the aim of the competition, with 2014 topic being, “The impact of micro insurance on socio-economic development of Nigeria,” is to encourage research among students.

Managing Director of CHI, Mr. Eddie Efekoha said that the essay is based on insurance related courses and the company selects topics based on issues that are relevant to the industry that elicit academic debate in practice.

“We send invitations to institutions offering insurance courses to participate; they write and submit their entries based on the topics that we forward to them. As soon as we receive entries, our selected assessors go through them. The assessors have criteria for marking to ensure that the process is credible, transparent and devoid of any frivolity. At the end of the day, the best essays among the participating schools are chosen and awards are given on the basis of first, second and third.
