Enugu — GOVERNOR Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, yesterday, broke his silence on why he decided to drop his senatorial ambition at the last minute.

The governor, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Mr. Chukwudi Achife, said he “withdrew in the interest of the party,” adding that party unity and strength are superior to personal interests.”

However,  despite his withdrawal and the open declaration by the Senate Deputy President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, to support the governor’s anointed candidate, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, it appeared the expected truce reached, had already been breached as there were three different venues which at the same time produced Senator Gilbert Nnaji, former Chief of Staff to Governor Chime, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo and former Minister of Information and Communication, Frank Nweke Jnr as winners for Enugu East on Sunday.

It was also not different in Enugu North senatorial zone which also recorded two parallel primaries.

The one at Government Field Nsukka produced a former Commissioner of Transport, Chuka Utazi as the candidate while the one at Nsukka Civic Centre produced former National Chairman of PDP, Okwesilieze Nwodo as the winner.
