Ogun PDP disagrees with NWC over primaries

By Daud Olatunji

ABEOKUTA—The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State has disagreed with the National Working Committee of the party over the alleged cancellation of its primaries it concluded recently.

The state Chairman of the party, Bayo Dayo stated this in a statement yesterday, adding that there was no iota of truth in the report that; “All primary congresses held in the state from the house of assembly to the just concluded gubernatorial primary are valid and authentic.”

Also, the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka in a statement yesterday, described his victory as watershed, pledging to make life more abundant.

According to him, as an aspirant from Ogun West, I am even more humbled as the show of deep patriotism by the other two Ogun West aspirants which is unprecedented in the annals of Yewa/Awori land; they are indeed the heroes of this victory.

The National Working Committee had announced the cancellation of the primaries in Ogun State, saying, any primaries held in the state would be null and void.

The NWC, however, said it would announce the new date for the primaries to the party members soon.

But, in defiance to the purported order by the NWC, the state party executive went ahead and held the congresses including the governorship primaries which produced Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka.

Reacting to the cancellation report, Dayo said: “The nullification report is false and misleading. Our findings at the national headquarters of our party confirmed that there was no National Working Committee meeting where such decision was taken.

“The National Executive Council meeting approved the guidelines and time table for the congresses and primaries in which our party in Ogun State adhered strictly to from the conduct of congresses that produced the delegates to the primaries.

“Besides, there were judgements that empowered the PDP chapter in Ogun State to conduct congresses and primary elections and file the reports to the appropriate authorities including the INEC.”

Meanwhile, the NWC has reportedly summoned the state Chairman, Bayo Dayo to Abuja over the primaries he held in defiance to its order.

Vanguard gathered that, the National Chairman, Adamu Muazu and other leaders of the party would be meeting with Dayo tonight to iron out issues.
