LAGOS—Former Governor of Lagos State, Chief Lateef Jakande, JP, has commended the Ilupeju Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, for embarking on N50 million Wireless Closed Circuit Television, WCCTV, to enable the police detect crimes in the area.

The project is the first of its kind to be initiated through private initiative in the country.

Speaking at the official fund-raising for the project, Alhaji Jakande while describing the Ilupeju PCRC as pacesetter in supporting the police to fight crimes, condemned the lukewarm attitude of corporate bodies and industries, particularly the banks, towards financing WCCTV security project.

Jakande reminded the corporate bodies, banks and industries operating in area that they would be most beneficiaries of the project when completed, stressing the need for all hands to be on deck to fight crime in the society, adding that the government could not do it alone.

In his welcome address, Primate Michael A. Aniyikaiye who is chairman of Ilupeju PCRC, described the launching of the fund as marking a milestone in the history of Ilupeju Police Division in that, the project would help the Police to monitor events and crime within the community and nib crime in the bud.
