NIGERIA is a complex society with diversities. Delta State is an heir to the complexities that typify Nigeria. To unravel and to interpret these complexities and have them built into a meaningful tapestry for this generation and generations yet unborn, many years have been sunk into the search without a clear navigable course charted. Just yesterday some persons emerged from hitherto unknown corners, gaudily dressed: they are the interpreters of Delta State .

Their genius lie in interpreting Delta State anchored on principles which are incontrovertibly at variance with Aristotle’s syllogism. Yet, we must clap for them because they are the geniuses of our time, singularly blessed from birth with the genes of flawless interpretation of Delta State.

For them, Delta State would be broken to smithereens, shrapnels dangerously thrust upon people, if their interpretative prescriptions are derided and trodden like heavy feet on dead grasses. This is why the Tompolos and the J.E. Managers should be wary so as not to walk on paths that could harm Delta State, particularly now that God in his infinite mercy has let loose interpreters philosophically armed with flawless knowledge of yesterday, today and tomorrow. What luck rests on the state !

In the daily vocabulary of Nigeria, Tompolo first featured as a freedom activist committed to the liberation of the marginalised Niger Delta. With the Federal Government Amnesty of 2009 extended to him, he was subsequently engaged on contractual basis as a force against maritime criminality ravaging the country.

This contractual engagement which he claimed as part of his dream for a greater, united, developed Nigeria, came from NIMASA. Higher output in daily Oil production and the maritime-criminality reduction are the dividends of this contractual engagement involving NIMASA and Global West Vessel Specialist Limited.

Though, to some interpreters, this is equivalent to an assault on the Nigerian Navy as the waterways surveillance was now placed in the hands of an individual. This is a very good argument but sadly blind to the reality that there is a Joint Task Force in Delta State; yet Governor Uduaghan created Delta Waterways Security Committee to exist side by side with the Nigerian Navy and other security agencies.

Maybe this could be equally interpreted as a surrender of security to individuals since the Delta Waterways Security Committee is made up of individuals like Tompolo, or are they spirits and angels?

Premised on available data, the performance index of NIMASA is commendable, indicating that Tompolo’s confidence in the Patrick Akpobolokami’s led-NIMASA is not misplaced. Tompolo believed in him and had worked with him over the years to tackle the hitherto indomitable maritime challenges.

What can be clearly distilled from Tompolo’s romance with NIMASA is the reality that NIMASA is being progressively reformed and transformed in line with the transformation vision of President Goodluck Jonathan in revenue-generation for the Nigerian Federal government. This means that the Tompolos are reformers.

In other climes , the likes of Tompolo are celebrated as heroes and reformers who should be invariably granted access to the corridors of power as a solid bridge for the ceaseless flow of transformation waters down to the grass roots. But this has not been the case. Tompolo, the interpreters say is a terrorist because he has stubbornly aligned himself with reformist goals which are against their wishes.

Exploitation, oppression, manipulation, enslavement and criminality daily strike Tompolo as abnormalities which must not be allowed where only positive forces of reform are licensed to tread on. Tears always terrorize Tompolo and jolt him into justifiable action whenever injustice terrorizes the secular space in any guise. Having liberated the Niger Delta from the dark forces, he is constantly in search of existing spaces of abnormalities where he can free the incarcerated.

This is the propelling force behind Tompolo’s gravitation towards politics – the extension of his liberation struggle to politics. As a reformer and saviour, these are normal expectancies from the man now interpretatively termed the political generalissimo.

Moving away from the Old Testament of Niger Delta liberation to the New Testament of political involvement and liberation, Tompolo has already demonstrated landmarks – landmarks that have given birth to the emergence of a new crop of interpreters of Delta State whose judgment and genius cannot be faulted by any mortal no matter how intellectually endowed, not even by the Nobel Laureate Prof.

Wole Soyinka whose views are revered by intellectuals. Because Tompolo’s strategies for goal-pursuit and goal-realization enjoy the benediction of the cosmic, his DUG-OUT always outwits whirlpool, hurricane and whirlwind, leading to the constant irrational ululations of losers who, ordinarily, should applaud his reformist credentials and pragmatic progression.

The Ogulagha axis of Burutu Local Government had long been chained politically and had long clamoured for political emanicipation. Towards political involvement and manumission, Hon. Julius Pondi contested the space of the House of Representative alongside other candidates and won the PDP primary, possibly with the support of Tompolo, whom, they say has struck up political alliance with the political navigator of Delta politics, Senator J.E Manager.

The people of Burutu are excited that their desire for reform has come through Tompolo’s healthy political involvement. It is incomprehensible that Tompolo, termed a terrorist by interpreters, recorded this political magic without a recourse to bomb and guns as it is the vogue in the terrorism-threatened North-East of Nigeria.

Yet, we must concede to the interpreters the thesis that Tompolo is a terrorist – whether or not in deification or minimization, only God knows.

Because Tompolo is a reformer, liberator, who has known no misstep in any task of his involvement, counting from the liberation days to the NIMASA days, he has been licensed to produce the next Deputy-Governor of Delta State as authoritatively proclaimed with some measure of envy by the interpreters of Delta State. Drawing nourishment from his track record, his liberation struggle and philosophy of reform and pragmatism, Delta State would be blessed with a great Deputy-Governor dedicated to the dream of a developed and united Delta State.

George Ekpemuplo’s rise to chairmanship in Warri South-West Council was on the canoe of Tompolo and he transformed the Council in his first tenure; today, Ekpemupolo George has democratically become the Chairman of Warri South-West Council through the involvement of Tompolo who merely strives to strike a balance between the Ijaws and the Itsekiris in the political equation of Warri South-West Council.

Because George performed creditably to the accolade of Deltans , it is likely that the next deputy- Governor of Delta State, if anointed by the mystic Tompolo, indelible marks of transformation would be registered for generations born and unborn.

However, for Tompolo to merit the political alliance and companionship of Senator J.E Manager the political strategist, Tompolo is unarguably a terrorist of benevolent pigmentation. Does a benevolent terrorist exist in the globe? The interpreters of Delta, who are indeed progressives, are more progressive than the APC progressives. It is doubltful if the APC can provide an answer to this.

Let us concede as proclaimed by the progressives, that Tompolo is a terrorist; but let us also add foolishly that he should be consistently constant in his political terrorism so that Delta State can be broken into smithereens for a new Delta State to emerge – by so doing, the ‘interpreters’ of Delta State politics would have out done Soyinka’s The Interpreters .
