Minister of Sports and Chairman, National Sports Commission, Dr. Tammy Danagogo has commended the government and people of Cross River State for the support shown to sports development in the country and accepting to host the 19th National Sports Festival tagged “Paradise Games – Calabar 2014.”

Danagogo made the remark when he led members of the Main Organising Committee to pay a courtesy visit on the Deputy Governor of the State, Barr, Efiok Cobham at the Executive Council Chambers in Calabar, Cross River State on Monday (3/11/2014).

He stated that amongst the states that have stood out in their quest to support grassroots sport development, Cross River State has always been outstanding. According to him “I can tell you that Cross River State government is one of those States governments that are deeply supporting sports development in this country and we urge them to continue the good work.”

The Minister explained that grassroots development is one of the cardinal highlights of the roadmap for transformation of sports development in the country and it is the reason the federal government has been emphasizing on the need for all state governments and well meaning individuals to key into supporting sports development in every nook and cranny of the country.

Danagogo said “as the National Sports Festival is around the corner, the Main Organising Committee and the National Sports Commission felt we should come to hold a meeting of the committee and also access the state of readiness of facilities here and take an overview of all the circumstance that will enable us decide whether we are ready to go or not.”

Receiving the Minister and his entourage, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Cobham applauded the National Sports Commission and the Main Organising Committee for the hosting right accorded the state.

He assured of the State’s preparedness to host the festival and opined that the hosting right will enable the state produce not only national champions but those that will represent the country in international events.

The team later inspected facilities in designated areas of the State.
