If everything Open Access Metropolitan Fiber Network Operator, Broadbased Communications Ltd, says it is capable of doing pans out correctly, telecom operators who have been complaining of multiple cuts on their fibre cables and other infrastructure, has a reprieve already in their hands.
This means that cables laid with this instrument would be safe for over 25 years since no road construction or reconstruction would go as deep as 6 feet.
The company says it is providing a high capacity data network, as well as a security network for other Telecom Operators, Internet Service Providers, Banks, the Nigerian Stock Exchange, e-Payment Switching and Processing Companies and other major Corporate clients
In a presentation to Top Executives of Banks, Financial Institutions, Telecom Operators and ISPs, during the Launching of their Horizontal Directional Drilling Equipment in Lagos, MD/CEO of the company, Prince Henry Ise-Okojie, noted that Broadbased Communications from inception made a commitment to offer a non compete Open Access Shared Services platform to enable other Telecom Operators and Content Providers to provide services to end users.
What this means is that these Telecom Operators can ride on the back of Broadbased Communications as Fiber Optic Transportation highway to connect their Wireless Base Stations, provide high capacity Fiber Optic links to their Corporate Customers and provide Fiber to the Home Services.
Ise-Okojie stated that the current aggregate spending on Fiber Optic Services by major Corporate firms is less than 5% of their total telecom budget and that this is projected to increase significantly above 90% in the near future.
According to him, worldwide statistics support that the Open Access Non Compete Model is the only viable business model that can survive over time, adding that the World Bank and other Strategic Investors who have experience in this sector has validated this stand point in other countries around the world.
Okojie claimed that Broadbased Communications has Points of Presence (POPs) in all the major business districts in Lagos, promising that before the end of the year there would be over 30 POPs in Lagos to provide services to these Telecom Operators.
“Each POP is connected by redundant Cable paths and equipped with Network equipment that automatically reroutes traffic if there is a Cable cut on a particular link, ensuring excellent quality of services to our esteemed Customers.” Broadbased Communications said it has also invested heavily in Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) equipment, which enables it to lay Cables underground mechanically without manually digging up the Streets.
Commenting on this, Okojie said, “we have demonstrated to a variety of clients and the public how the HDD equipment enables us to lay Fiber Optic Cables below roads, Canals, Rivers etc in some cases 22 ft below Canals and 90ft River Crossings. We have also invested in scanning devices to electronically scan for cables and pipes buried underground on the Streets before we start drilling and laying our Fiber Optic Cables.
