Lagos—There was a mild drama yesterday at a Lagos High Court sitting at Igbosere as a suspect, Adekunle Oladimeji, standing trial for armed robbery, suddenly fainted as his case was being called.

The suspect and three others were charged to court over alleged conspiracy, armed robbery and stealing, assault and threat to life.

The defendants, including Segun Olarinde, Nkemiika Opara and Latifu Olarinde, were docked before Justice Raliatu Adebiyi.

Oladimeji fainted when the case was called and for more than one hour, he was on the floor, prompting the judge to adjourn the case till 2pm.

The judge threatened to lock up the suspect if he failed to stand up, warning further that she would put on record that he was present in court.

As the drama played out, counsel to the suspect, K. J. Arubale, immediately went outside the court but not without telling the judge that his client was ill and that the illness was what prevented him from appearing in court on Monday.

He also told the judge that the matter was so serious that the suspect was vomiting blood.

However, the prosecuting counsel, Adetola Rotimi, told the court that there was nothing wrong with the suspect, saying his action was a cover-up to forestall his trial.

By 2p.m. when the matter was called, Oladimeji was still clutching his stomach which prompted the judge to ask him to sit while the trial lasted.
