Orunmwense emerges new UNIBEN V C

BENIN—PROFESSOR Faraday  Osasere Orunmwense, Acting Dean, Faculty of Engineering, yesterday emerged the new Vice-Chancellor of  University of Benin, UNIBEN.

The Professor of Mechanical Engineering emerged as Prof. Osayuki Oshodin’s successor after scoring 78 per cent in an interview conducted by the Governing Council of the university.

He emerged top among 18 other candidates who sat for the interview.

His emergence means another Bini indigene succeeding Prof. Oshodin.

In a swift reaction, Edo Unity League and the Benin National Congress, BNC, socio- cultural organizations in Edo State, hailed Prof. Orunmwense’s emergence, declaring  that they had no doubt that “he has all it takes to take UNIBEN to the next level due to his outstanding credentials.”

In a joint statement, the groups tasked the new Vice Chancellor to “live in accordance with the template of President Goodluck Jonathan and the aspirations of the host communities. We implore every aspirant to the post to support him, including attracting foreign organizations as Food Foundation and UNESCO to support the new appointee.

He should improve on the legacies of Prof. Oshodin. We pledge our unequivocal and unflinching support for him to succeed as Oshodin’s successor.”

The Public Relations Officer, PRO,  of the University, Mr. Harrison Osarenren, confirmed the development, saying  the best candidate emerged “after the interview conducted.”

Prof.Oshodin’s tenure  will terminate on November 30, 2014.
