LAGOS—Worried about the stigma associated with mental disorders, Lagos State Government yesterday said it would implement its mental health policy with a view to end stigmatisation and discrimination against Lagosians suffering from such disorders.
At a press briefing in Lagos, state commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris who appealed for emotional and practical support for people living with Schizophrenia said the mental policy will ensure mental well being of the citizenry.
Idris further explained that the state’s Mental Health Policy seeks to increase awareness and sensitisation of individuals, communities, vulnerable and special groups to mental health, combat discrimination against individuals or groups with mental health problems through mental health promotion.
