Imo State stinks of maladministration—Rep

House of Representatives during plenary

ABUJA— PRESIDENT of Pan African Parliament, PAP, and a member of the House of Representatives, Bethel Amadi, has said Imo State stinks of mal-administration.
Amadi, who represents Mbatoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency in a chat with journalists, said: “What we have in Imo State today is a complete state of mal-administration that has set the state backward by 10 years.

“A situation where you have projects not completed for three years calls for a quick reasoning as to how the state is being administered.”

He explained that the dissolution of local governments without due process and the flagrant disobedience to all known democratic tenets had made the state to remain largely a rural state.

The lawmaker said: “It is in Imo State that the chief executive goes about distributing N200 notes to pupils on one hand and, on the other hand, he suddenly dissolves the town unions that laboured for years to build same schools.

“Or how do you explain the unique position that Imo State occupies in the South-East and is largely under utilised by the present government?

“For instance, it is about one hour drive from Aba a commercial haven to Owerri and is not also far from Onitsha another commercial hub yet there is no spill over effect to Imo till date.”

On his perceived ambition to unseat the present governor of the state, Chief Rochas Okorocha, Amadi said the sensitisation was at its peak, adding that he had started consulting with all his political leaders, who knew that the state needed visionary leadership.

Speaking on terrorism as it affected the African continent, Amadi said: “On the issue of terrorism, I believe that is a major problem. There can be no development without peace.
“If you look at North- Eastern Nigeria, nobody can be talking about achieving Millennium Development Goals because the schools are closed. There is no education going on for young people.”
