Pinnick Amaju
By Tony Ubani
As Nigerians come to terms with the election of new officers to run the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, the President Melvin Amaju Pinnick has dispelled fears that his over-bearing self and pride would rock the boat of the Board which overwhelmingly voted him into office in Warri.
Since his coming on board the NFF, many football stakeholders have been speaking in low tones on their perceived fears of the arrogant nature of the President.
“I am not arrogant. It’s only those who see me from afar who think I am arrogant. My friends know that I am a jolly good fellow.
Another thing is that people think I am arrogant when they hear of landmark achievements recoded under me in Delta. We built a N200 million football house in Delta.
It is the first of its kind in Nigeria. We’ve had an uninterrupted 15-year sponsorship deal of our FA Cup with our sponsors. It has never happened anywhere in Nigeria.
When people hear these laudable and noble achievements, they conclude that am arrogant or blowing my trumpet. There are things on the ground for people to see. It’s not arrogance”, Pinnick said.
An official who would not want to be mentioned in print said that “if only Pinnick will be humble, he is a young man full of ideas, connected and passionate about football. But, if he proves to be arrogant, he might go the way of former Chairman Kodjo Williams who was impeached three months after election”.
