Indications emerged yesterday that following the surrendering of hundreds of Boko Haram insurgents in the wake of the killing of many of their Commanders including the late imposter, Mohammed Bashir, the presidency has waved an olive branch of irresistible offers almost akin to the Political “amnesty solution” if more of the terrorists surrender.
The political solution, which Vanguard gathered was going on underground is seriously being pursued as President Goodluck Jonathan was said to have stated that the insurgency must be brought to an end by any means possible.
According to sources, the underground moves to get the insurgents to come to table and talk has commenced and many of the insurgents who believe the battle and destruction they have been embarking upon made no sense and was a no win situation, are beginning to show signs of remorse and are willing to give up.
Moreover, it was gathered that many of the insurgents, having experienced the new resolve and determination of the Nigerian military to deal with the group, following new and highly sophisticated acquisitions of ground and air weaponry to which they would stand no chance, believe that government’s offer of olive branch was the best way out.
Vanguard however gathered that failure of any member of the group or unrepentant members to retrace their steps and surrender will continue to receive the full weight of the military’s onslaught, as the military will not rest until all violent and vicious members are not only wiped out, all their camps and communities they occupy are recovered.
“A Committee which the source said was operating underground for reasons of confidence building and protection of correspondences and exchange of information, has been set up” the source said adding, “we see no reason why they should not lay down their arms and come forward for talks”.
