Enugu—ENUGU State government yesterday said it was determined to find lasting solution to the dreaded 9th Mile Corner gully and other erosion devastated sites in the state that had claimed the lives, buildings and livelihoods of residents.

At a briefing in Enugu, Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Dr. Nnaemeka Chukwuone, said: “The World Bank assisted Enugu State Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, NEWMAP, will be launched on Friday this week. This is a new approach at reversing the situation, help to correct erosion problem. We have more devastated sites in Enugu than any other in South east zone and our governor being proactive has keyed in.

“We have about 22 critical identified sites. Today, Enugu State has five priority erosion sites out which two sites engineering designs have been approved for site interventions this approaching dry season.”
