IN the just concluded Miss University of Lagos pageant, Miss Damilare Babajide, a 400 level Student of the Faculty of Law emerged the winner and was rewarded with a new car. The gift was presented to her officially by the office of the Directorate of Student Affairs (DSA).
It was a highly anticipated and well attended event with guests ranging from past beauty queens and kings, delectable UNILAG alumni, celebrities amongst others.
The show ended late but was worth the wait as there were mind blowing performances from Runtown, Slyde, YQ, Cynthia Morgan, Bash the comedian, Bucci the World’s strongest man, Byno, Creeda and Burna Boy.
The contestants also put up a great show, from their choreographed dance session to their corporate, traditional and evening gown displays.
Top five contestants were selected out of the 15 and were asked questions to test their intelligence. Though the five contestants performed well, one had to be selected and Damilare Babajide emerged victorious and was greeted with cheers from the crowd as certainly a larger part of them were in favor of the judges’ choice.
Nkemadu Adaobi and Sarah Itoje were the first and second runners up respectively.
The newly crowned queen walked away with a branded Toyota Matrix, cash price, monthly maintenance salary and ambassordor for Yaggy Energy, Techno Mobile, Zaron products, evening gowns from Woodin amongst other goodies.
Speaking of her success, she expressed utmost gratitude to God almighty for giving her the strength, talent, courage and the grace to emerge the winner. She also thanked Sulcata entertainment and other stake holders that made the 2014 Miss Unilag event a success. Her friends and family members were equally thanked for their love and support.
Meanwhile, it would be recalled that Olaitan Zainab emerged winner of the debate competition organised in the same institution last month. Olaitan Zainab, a 200 level student of Political Science was handed a sum of N100, 000 with a laptop computer.
Reacting to the disparity of gifts made to winners of both the debate competition and beauty pageant, some students on the campus said the measly gifts to winners of academic competitions compared to the sumptuous packages to winners of beauty pageants will definitely affect the morale of students in the course of their studies.
