UMUAHIA — GOVERNOR Theodore Orji of Abia State has accused the Mamman Nasir Commission on Boundaries of creating problems between the state and its neighbours.

The governor  spoke against the backdrop of concerns expressed by current leadership of National Boundary Commission that no single inter-state boundary in the South East zone had been conclusively demarcated to date.

The Commission had blamed inadequate funding and lack of logistics support for the problem.
But Governor Orji said the state had been trying to  resolve the problems created by past leadership of the Commission and urged the present leadership  to help in the quick resolution of the problems.

According to the him, “Abia State’s problems with Akwa Ibom is the most problematic of all boundary issues the state has with its neighbours.”
Orji, who noted that the state also had boundary problems with Ebonyi, Rivers and a minor one with Imo, charged the National Boundary Commission to help maintain peaceful co-existence between the state and its neigbours as well as other states in the nation and their various neighbours.

Governor Orji, who spoke in Umuahia when the Director General of the National Boundary Commission, Dr. M. B. Ahmad, and his team, visited Government House, Umuahia, noted that the Commission was very essential, especially as it plays key role in bringing peace in the polity.
According to him, “land remains a sensitive issue in every state and needs to be handled very carefully.”
