CALABAR—Following the recent skirmishes between the two communities of Ediba and Usumutong in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State in breach of a subsisting ceasefire agreement signed by both communities on August 4, 2014, the chairman of Abi council, Mrs Edith Amadi, yesterday suspended forthwith the stipends of all the chiefs of the two communities until permanent peace was restored.

According to her, this had become necessary “to compel the chiefs to look inwards and find lasting solution to the protracted crises.
“My administration will no longer tolerate further breaches of the peace process already instituted by the government and other concerned authorities including the Paramount Ruler of Yakurr Obol Ubi  Inah.”

Mrs Amadi warned that Abi council, which is also the state governor’s council, will not hesitate to suspend or revoke the certificates of the affected chiefs if they fail to call their subjects to order and desist from breaching the August 4 agreement.
