Lagos – Illegal arms owners in Lagos State have been ordered to surrender their weapons within two weeks or face the wrath of the law and individuals to can install CCTVs in their homes.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Aderanti, gave the order on Tuesday while speaking with journalists at the command headquarters in Lagos.
Aderanti, howeveer, assured Lagos residents that there would be no mercy for anyone found with illegal arms in the state.
“Every illegal weapon should be taken to any area command in the state within two weeks as anybody caught after this date will be treated as an armed robber,’’ he said.
He added that the force was doing its best to eradicate crime in the state, and stressed that this was to ensure a crime free election in 2015.
On the death of the deputy chairman of The Sun Publications, Dimgba Igwe, Aderanti said the force was doing everything possible to arrest the perpetrator.
He, however, urged the suspect to turn himself in as “the long arms of the law will surely catch up with him’’.
“The criminal should be a man and turn himself to the police,’’ he added.
Aderanti also encouraged individuals to install CCTVs in their homes and not leave everything for the government to do.
He said that all unauthorised road blocks would be dismantled, and urged residents to report any suspicious roadblocks to the police.
“I am setting up a special squad that would be dedicated to this,’’ he said.
On the collapsed building at the Synagogue Church, the Commissioner said investigation was still ongoing, adding that the police was doing its best on the situation.
