MAKURDI— Nigerian Army has called for a closer working relationship with the media to enable it effectively combat the lingering insurgency and terrorists activities that threaten the unity and security of the country.

Commander, 325 Ground Training Group, GTG, of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Christopher Dola, spoke at the combined graduation ceremony of Advanced Intelligence Course 11 and Document Security Course Six of the Nigerian Air Force School of Air Intelligence, NAFSAINT, in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Air Commodore Dola said: “Our media must know that revealing security weaknesses invites exploitation of such weaknesses. Therefore, cooperation between the two is crucial to make intelligence more effective and ensure our national security.”

He acknowledged the role the media played in fostering unity in the country, adding that the military intelligence and the media must continue to partner to engender peaceful coexistence in the country.

Earlier, the Commandant of NAFSAINT, Group Captain Benson Omoyungbo, said officers were currently being availed adequate training in counter terrorism in the institution as a result of the support the Chief of Air Staff, CAS, Air Chief Marshal Adesola Amosu, had extended to the NAFSAINT.

Omoyungbo said: “As a result of this support, the Nigerian Air Force is in the process of acquiring modern intelligence equipment to boost training at the NAFSAINT. The support has also enabled us expand our scope by ensuring that officers are well grounded and trained in the area of counter terrorism and insurgency.
“The training is critical in our overall efforts to key into the CAS vision and also contribute in the achievement of the key drivers of the vision as well.”
