Ebonyi  debunks rumours  of Ebola  outbreak

ABAKALIKI—EBONYI State government yesterday debunked the report in some quarters that an Ebola patient was receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, FETHA.

The report, which many had considered to be true, threw the state into a state of panic and confusion as calls were being made by concerned individuals to confirms its authenticity.

In a statement, state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sunday Nwangele, described the report as false, stressing that modalities had been put in place to checkmate the disease.
He said the patient whose ailment was described as Ebola was untrue as the patient was being treated for peptic ulcer and not Ebola.

“The case of Ebola in Ebonyi as being peddled is a false alarm. it is rather a case of Peptic Ulcer. I want call on everybody in the State and Nigeria to disregard the alarm. There is no Ebola Virus Disease in Ebonyi State, Nigeria.

“Meanwhile, government of   Ebonyi State, through the State   Ministry   of Health, the Rapid Respond Team & Treatment Committee are by His Grace ready to handle issues of Ebola Virus Disease in  Ebonyi State, while enlightening the entire public to comply with universal precautions as already established.”
