Yenagoa—Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, yesterday allayed the fears of the people of the state over Ebola disease, noting that it was not a death sentence, if detected early and treated.

Dickson, at the state monthly transparency briefing iin Yenagoa, said “Ebola is not a death sentence. People do recover from it if identified and treated on time. Though there is no known case of Ebola in Bayelsa State,  we pray it does not occur here.”

The governor urged Bayelsans to be vigilant and observe personal hygiene, noting “When you noticed anyone with the symptoms, this is not the time to resort to herbalists and prayer warriors but to report to the nearest health facility.

“We are one of the first states to set up system to check any outbreak of the virus in the state. We thank God we have no case of Ebola to treat. It is not yet over because of what is happening in our neighbouring state.”

He thanked the Commissioner for Health for his untiring effort in enlightening the masses on how best to prevent the virus from entering the state.
